How to sell your old phone safely: a step-by-step checklist
Updated 23 September 2026
Selling a phone is safe when you do a few things first. Follow this checklist before the pickup — it takes about 15 minutes.
1. Back up your photos, contacts and chats
- iPhone: Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup → Back Up Now.
- Android: Settings → Google → Backup (the exact menu differs by brand).
- WhatsApp: Settings → Chats → Chat backup → Back up.
2. Sign out of your accounts
This is the most important step. If your account is still on the phone, the phone stays locked to you after a reset — and a locked phone can't be sold.
- iPhone: Settings → [your name] → Sign Out. This also turns off Find My iPhone.
- Android: Settings → Accounts (or Passwords & accounts) → Google → Remove account.
- Samsung: also remove your Samsung account the same way.
3. Remove your SIM and memory card
Take out every SIM card and any microSD card. If you use an eSIM, ask your mobile operator to move it to your new phone first.
4. Unpair your smartwatch and earbuds
Unpair an Apple Watch from the Watch app, and remove Bluetooth devices you no longer want connected.
5. Factory reset
Not sure? Our executive can reset the phone in front of you at pickup.
- iPhone: Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Erase All Content and Settings.
- Android: Settings → System → Reset options → Erase all data (factory reset). Some brands put this under General management.
6. Note your IMEI and keep your bill of sale
Dial *#06# to see your phone's IMEI number and write it down. Keep the bill of sale we give you — it proves the phone is no longer yours.
The one rule that protects you from scams
You never need to enter your UPI PIN or share an OTP to RECEIVE money. A real buyer only needs your UPI ID or bank details.
Changekro will never ask for your UPI PIN, bank password or any OTP. If anyone does, it's a scam — stop and call us.
